Lady Bison Lose to No. 7 LCU
January 18, 2007
Lubbock Christian's dynamic duo of Ashley Hunter and Jordan Hampton turned in 21 and 20 points, respectively to lead the No. 7 Lady Chaparrals to a 73-67 win over No. 23 Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee Thursday night.
The pair had been averaging 22 (Hunter) and 21 (Hampton) over the previous three games and used that offensive steadiness to post the most points scored against OBU's statistically strong interior defense since Nov. 16.
OBU had four players in double figures, led by Lena Brenning with 16 points. Rachel Heins followed with 13, with Betsy Simmons scoring 12 and Dilenny Castillo adding 11.
After Brenning hit a buzzer-beater to pull OBU to within 31-24 at halftime, the Lady Chaps got the lead back out to double digits and led 49-38 with 13 minutes to play.
Heins scored four points to fuel a 11-2 OBU run to pull the Lady Bison to within 51-49 at the 8:54 mark of the game.
After an exchange of baskets, LCU got some separation with back-to-back three-pointers by Brandi Raindl and Sierra Wilcox to bulk the lead up to 59-51. OBU was never able to get it to a single possession game for the remaining seven minutes.
LCU (13-3, 4-1) took over sole possession of first place in the SAC with the win and an Oklahoma Christian loss at USAO. The Lady Chaps will play Friday at John Brown in a game originally scheduled for Saturday.
The game will begin at 4 p.m. to allow LCU to get home ahead of a forecast winter storm.
OBU (8-6, 2-2) will host Wayland Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m.
