Bison Turn Back Pioneers, 80-64

A hot-shooting Oklahoma Baptist successfully defended its home court with an 80-64 win over Wayland Baptist Saturday.
The Bison shot 58 percent from the field, 64 percent from three-point range, and 84.6 percent from the free throw line. J.R. Broadus and Evan Grace were a combined 9-for-9 from the field with five three-pointers, with Broadus scoring 15 points.
Wayland Baptist had a brief 3-0 lead on a Kendall Webb three-pointer before the Bison responded with 11 points. OBU followed that up with 13-0 spree with five points each from Broadus and Julius Hurd, giving the Bison a 28-7 lead.
Michal Polanowski gave Wayland Baptist two free throws and its third field goal and the first not scored by Webb, with 4:32 left in the first half to pull the Pioneers to within 28-11, capping WBU's best first-half run.
The Bison led 43-21 at halftime.
OBU built the lead to 77-47 in the second half. Wayland Baptist scored the game's final 14 points to close the gap back to the final margin.
Hurd led the Bison with 19 points, followed by Mike Fraser with 16, Broadus with 15 and Tre Griffin with 14. Webb led the Pioneers with 18 points, followed by Danny Storey with 17.
OBU (10-5, 3-2) will host Southern Nazarene Monday. USAO visits Wayland Baptist (7-10, 1-6) on Thursday.
