Senior Tabetha Eaton scored a school-record 18 free throws in leading Oklahoma Baptist to a 78-65 win over Texas Wesleyan Thursday night.
Eaton's 18 free throws broke the record of 17 set by Carrie Moss against Phillips University on Jan. 17, 1998. Eaton's 18-of-21 night at the line offset an 8-of-19 performance at the free throw line by the rest of the team.
Eaton tied and broke the record by hitting both attempts of a two-shot opportunity with two minutes to play. The shots helped stave off a Lady Rams rally.
OBU never trailed in advancing to 12-0 and led by as many as 18 on two occasions in the first half, including the 39-21 halftime advantage.
The lead peaked at 58-33 with 12:29 to play in the game on a free throw by Eaton.
Texas Wesleyan cut the lead back from 21 points at the 9:55 mark to 10 by the 3:01 mark, using a 16-5 run. Eaton then hit four free throws, including the record-breaker, to give OBU a 73-59 lead.
Eaton finished with a game-high 24 points, followed by Dilenny Castillo with 18 and Keely Tolin with 11.
The Lady Bison won the rebound battle 42-27, including 14 of 28 rebound opportunities on the offensive end.
The game was the last tune-up before the Lady Bison begin Sooner Athletic Conference action Monday at home against John Brown. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
