OBU Qualifies 16 at KSU

Oklahoma Baptist opened its indoor track season with 16 qualifying times, four school records and a meet record at the Kansas State All-Comers meet Saturday.
Mirriam Kaumba ran a meet and school record 4:53.13 in the mile run to highlight three first place finishes for the defending national champion Lady Bison, while the Bison captured four more event titles in a meet that included NCAA Division I teams. Kyta Willets was fourth in the mile at 5:14.66.
Jamaican freshmen Nickeisha Wilson and Latoya Greaves also came up big. Wilson won the 400 meters in a qualifying and school record time of 55.89 with Johna Moore getting 12th in 1:07.85. Greaves won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.41 seconds, followed by Wilson in second in 8.53 seconds. Both qualified for the NAIA meet. Melissa Roth was eighth in 9.61 and Jessica Haynes was 12th at 10.3.
Kyli Bean was second in the 600 meters at a school-record 1:25.34 pace and qualified along with fifth-place finisher Amanda Mayfield at 1:29.77. OBU's 4x400 relay team qualified in second at 3:49.82.
Other Lady Bison Top 10 finishes included Leslie Polman, eighth at 26.65 in the 200 meters, Jessica Haynes, third at 2:22.37 in the 800 meters; Shayna Legg, sixth at 2:29.12 in the 800; Emily Haynes fourth at 3:08.85 in the 1000; Michelle Carpenter in fourth at 5-4.25 in the high jump; Jessica Haynes, 10th at 4-10.25 in the high jump and 10th at 17-0.75 in the long jump; and Mai Fuakada, fifth at 36-1.25 in the triple jump.
On the men's side, T.J. Lightsey just missed a qualifying mark in winning the 200 meters in 22.27, followed by James Hall in third at 22.41, B.J. Bashourn in fifth at 22.62, and Derek Nettles sixth in 22.62.
OBU qualified three men in the 600 meters, led by Lightsey in second at a school record 1:12.89, A.J. Carter in fourth at 1:13.35 and Kurt Thomas in eighth at 1:15.20.
Clint Goodson won the 400 meters with a qualifying time of 48.62 seconds with Leonarde Smith qualifying from third place in 48.98. Ryan Gaither was eighth at 51.26.
Bryce Bell qualified and won the 800 meters at 1:56.35. Prophet Bailey was fourth at 1:57.98 and Chris Chandler was eighth at 2:00.49.
The 4x400 relay team won the meet and qualified in a time of 3:19.35.
Bashourn qualified from fourth place in the 60 meters in 6.93. Derek Nettles was ninth at 7.10 and James Hall was 13th at 7.16.
Lamar Baskin was fourth and qualified in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.13 seconds.
Other Top 10 finishes for the men included Jonathan Hilton, ninth at 6-3.5 in the high jump; Seth Ilaoa, fifth at 47-6.5 in the shot put; and Jeremiah Campo, ninth at 47-8 in the weight throw.
OBU returns to action Jan. 13 at the University of Arkansas.
