CHICKASHA - Oklahoma Baptist University's Bison soccer team improved to 2-0 with an overtime win over the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma after the Lady Bison fell 3-2.
Nickson Odeny headed in a corner kick from Fabio Pires in the 97th minute to clinch the game for the 10th-ranked Bison, who improved to 11-2-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
"USAO is a physical team and their field was a little bumpy so we never really got into our normal flow," said OBU coach Marcelo Galvao. "They did a lot of counter attacks and had more shots than we did."
OBU took the lead in the 33rd minute on a Marcos Silva free kick, but the Drovers tied the game in the 76th minute to force the extra period.
The Lady Bison, searching for their first-ever conference win, lost their second consecutive match.
Trailing 1-0, Katya Arruda tied the score with an assist from Hilary Hendrickson very early in the second half.
The Drovers went back ahead in the 48th minute, but Arruda tied the game after being set up to score by Hendrickson and Cara Zalenski in the 52nd minute.
USAO added the decisive tally in the 59th minute, dropping OBU to 0-2 in the SAC and 7-2-1 on the season.
"I think the two teams were equal and it was a good game," said Galvao. "The ball just bounced their way today."
The OBU squads return to action Saturday at Oklahoma City University.
