OBU Tennis Finishes Strong in Wichita

Oklahoma Baptist University's first tennis tournament of the fall season went well for the Bison and Lady Bison, including an Eighth Flight win for Eric Scroggins.
Scroggins defeated Andrew Kramer of Bethany Colllege, 6-3, 6-1, and Martin Renteria of Baker, 6-4, 6-0, before getting a default in the third round. Scroggins upended Allen Chapman of Independence in the championship 6-1, 6-4.
Kim Daniel also reached the ninth flight of No. 6 singles with wins over Korey Wood of Friends (6-4, 6-1) and Jenny Miller of Nebraska-Kearney (8-2). She lost in the finals to Sara Bredfeldt of Nebraska-Omaha, 6-4, 7-5.
Sarah Haselwood and Keri McNutt stormed to the finals of No. 1 doubles, flight 2B with wins over duos from UNK and Bethany before an 8-5 loss in the finals to Russell-Faulk of Missouri State.
Seven other OBU netters reached the consolation finals, with Peter McCorkle, D.J. Reeves, Caleb Potter and Haley Howard winning consolation titles.
McCorkle finished off with Collin Torrence of Bethany in a close 6-4, 6-5 win in No. 2 singles. Reeves ousted Bethany's Dason Morgan in the finals, 6-4, 6-3.
Potter staved off OBU teammate Koji Arisawa in the consolation finals of flight nine, 6-3, 6-3.
Howard won the eighth flight consolation in Nos. 4 and 5 singles, capping the run with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Erica Scofield of Tabor College.
Carlos Salazar and Kerri McNutt went 2-2 on the day with McNutt knocking off the top seed in flight five of No. 2 singles, Alex Yeagley of Nebraska Wesleyan, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
Tyson Allard, Andrew Sharp, Jared Haley, Ryan Weber, Steve Bajema, Haselwood, Lauren White, Brooke Mowery and the doubles team of Howard and Mowery all recorded wins on the day.
Jordan Wacker in men's No. 1 singles did not record a win, but forced a third set in his consolation round loss to Oliver Fabre of Barton County College.
No men's doubles results were reported.
