LAREDO, Texas - Oklahoma Baptist University's 2005 women's soccer opener ended in a tie before the Bison men improved to 3-0 with a 3-1 win at Texas A&M International Friday.
Autumn Oury headed in both OBU goals in a 2-2 tie, the second coming with an assist from Lauren Aldred..
"We dominated in the first part of the first half and then went a little flat," said head coach Marcelo Galvao, whose team trailed 2-1 at intermission. "We came back out in the second half and played well."
The men's match-up was the first meeting between the Bison and Dustdevils since TAMIU eliminated OBU in the first round of the Region VI Tournament last season.
The 26ht-ranked Bison never trailed this time around as Marcos Silva scored on a free kick 10 minutes into the game.
Adauto Oliveira, who missed the first two games of the season because of cautions in last season's TAMIU contest, scored with an assist from Elcio Freitas in the 20th minute.
International, ranked 24th in the nation, scored six minutes later to make it a 2-1 game, but Fabio Pires scored with an assist coming from Silva in the 29th minute for the final 3-1 margin.
The Dustdevils picked up two red cards and three yellows and played the final five minutes of the game down two men. While OBU didn't take advantage offensively, they were never threatened down the stretch.
"I think our guys came in very disciplined and controlled the game until we got a little lazy," said Galvao. "Overall, we played a very good game."
OBU continues their Texas road swing Saturday after a scheduled five-hour drive to Belton, Texas, where the Lady Bison will play Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3 p.m. and the Bison will play Schreiner at 5 p.m.
