Lady Bison Ninth After First Round

Oklahoma Baptist University's Lady Bison golf team is in ninth place after the first round of the NAIA Women's Golf Championship at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.
OBU shot 334 and is 21 strokes off the pace after 18 holes of the 72-hole tournament. There are 23 teams in the tournament. Embry-Riddle leads top-ranked Oklahoma City by two strokes and second-ranked Southern Nazarene by six.
Freshman Maggie Cole shot an impressive 77 and is just two strokes out of the lead in the individual standings.
Michelle Hunter and Ellen Zaske both shot 85, Jennifer Mann had an 87 and Amber McMurry came in at 92.
Karin Boo of Rocky Mountain and Whitney Guin of William Woods lead at 75. Five other golfers had a round of 76.
In all, there are 21 players within five shots of the lead including 2004 Individual Medalist Nicole Wildes from Berry (Ga.) and 2003 Medalist Dana Langdon from Brescia (Ky.) who both shot 79.
OBU, Concordia and Walsh begin their group of threesomes at 8:50 Wednesday morning with Cole's trio launching at 9:30 as the last Lady Bison to tee off. The tournament continues through Friday.
