Outdoor Track Season Opens Saturday
March 30, 2005
Oklahoma Baptist University is set to open its 2005 Outdoor Track season Saturday with the Bison Relays in Shawnee, after having the meet pushed back a week because of poor weather.
The event will be the area's first opportunity to see the 2005 NAIA Indoor National Champions in action.
"The type of home meet that OBU hosts, the Bison Relays, says a lot about the OBU tradition of having great relays," said OBU coach Ford Mastin, who earned his second NAIA Coach of the Year honors earlier this month. "It is great for athletes and spectators to watch a team work together to win. People will get the opportunity to watch several great relays in action that will feature many school record holders and National Champions. There will be the full schedule of field events and several individual events to watch as well. Also, Relay meets allow the competition to take place in a relatively short amount of time. It will be spectator-friendly."
Joining OBU in the meet will be Oklahoma Christian, Southern Nazarene, St. Gregory's, Dallas Baptist, Langston, Bacone and Bethany College.
The field events begin at 10 a.m. with the running events set for 1 p.m.
