OBU Teams Close Out Year in Top 10
December 14, 2004
Oklahoma Baptist University's basketball teams will close out the calendar year as members of the NAIA Top 10.
The last NAIA rankings (Dec. 14) until Jan. 4 have the men ranked seventh and the women ranked 10th after both teams were ranked ninth in the Dec. 7 poll.
The Bison moved up two slots with wins over NCCAA foes Mid-America Christian and Dallas Christian while former No. 8 LSU-Shreveport was blown out by Sam Houston State. Previously sixth-ranked Trevecca Nazarene lost to unranked Urbana and Cumberland (Ky.) lost to unranked Brescia and dropped from seventh to 24th.
Georgetown moved from 12th to sixth, leaping past the Bison with a pair of blowout wins against NAIA teams.
The OBU women played only Rhema Bible Institute, a team not recognized by the NAIA, and thus for rating purposes, were idle for the week. They were passed in the rankings by Brewton-Parker, which scored a win at No. 14 Lee University. All of last week's Top 10 women's teams remained in the Top 10, though there was some shuffling of positions.
The OBU women return to action Dec. 30 for a 4 p.m. game against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College. The Men play HFWBC the next day at 6 p.m.
