OBU Qualifies Nine in First Indoor Meet

Pat Brown won the 200 meters, Melissa Mount took the 800 meters and Oklahoma Baptist qualified nine athletes for nationals at the Kansas State University All-Comers Meet Saturday at Ahearn Fieldhouse.
Competing against Kansas, KSU, Oklahoma State and other schools, Brown crossed the finish line in the 200 meters in 22.15 seconds - a quarter-second faster than UMKC's Ryan Drake. The time qualified Brown for the NAIA Indoor Championships in March.
The men's 4x400 relay also qualified and won the race in 3:17.96, a second better than Kansas State.
T.J. Lightsey and Leonarade Smith finished second and third, respectively, in the 400 meters with national qualifying times of 49.30 and 49.35 seconds. Clint Goodson was fourth at 49.82.
Dominique Chan Low qualified in the triple jump, placing second at 47 feet, 1 inch.
Brown also finished second in the 60 meter hurdles at 7.95 seconds. Bryce Bell was third in the 800 meters at 2:00.70, Kerry Duckworth was fourth in the long jump at 22-5.75.
On the women's side, Melissa Mount captured the 800 meters with a qualifying time of 2:21.65.
Keyonna Hornbuckle was second in the 400 meters with a qualifying time of 58.26 seconds. Kyli Bean was third in the 600 meters and qualified for nationals in 1:25.43.
The women's 4x400 relay also qualified with their third-place finish at 3:56.37.
Also for OBU, Michelle Carpenter was third in the high jump at 5-2.25 and freshman Sara Thurber was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.12 seconds.
