Women's Golf Team Ranked Eighth
November 3, 2004
A strong fall season propelled the Oklahoma Baptist University women's golf team to new heights when the NAIA Preseason Top 25 was released Nov. 4.
OBU is ranked eighth in the nation after flirting with the lower end of the poll last season. The team finished off the fall season with a win at the South Central Kansas Fall Invitational, capturing the top three medalist spots.
"The team is obviously proud to be the first in OBU history to pull down a national ranking," said OBU Coach Rick Cody. "At the beginning of the season, I was hoping the girls would play well enough to get a Top 20 ranking. To grab a Top 10 ranking shows how determined the girls are to play well every time we tee it up."
The fall success gave OBU a strong Golfstat rating - eighth - which matched what the raters thought of OBU for the preseason ranking.
Maggie Cole, Jennifer Mann and Rachel Hunter all had strong outings in the fall, with Amber McMurry, Ellen Zaske and Brittany Brooks all making strong contributions as well.
The burden now shifts to carrying over the strong fall start into the spring.
"The season gets started again in February, and we must maintain this start to have a chance to compete for the national title," Cody said. "I truly believe if all the girls come together at the same time this spring, we can compete with anyone in the country, including a shot at the national title."
