November 15, 2004
Priscila Alves knocked down two baskets in the final 20 seconds to propel No. 16 Oklahoma Baptist University past No. 13 Columbia College (Mo.) Monday in Columbia. The Lady Bison ended the Cougars' 21-game regular season winning streak after a near collapse down the stretch.
After trailing by three at halftime, the OBU women got its biggest lead of the game, 55-48, on two Layla Schwarz free throws with 10:26 left to play. But for the next nine minutes, OBU turned the ball over nine times and hit just one field goal in six attempts. The Cougars used the drought to forge a 10-2 run, taking a 58-57 lead on two Tiffany Foote free throws with 28 seconds left in the game.
Alves scored with 19 seconds to play to give OBU a 59-58 lead and Schwarz rebounded the missed shot of CC's Lisa Kowalewski with 10 seconds left in the game. Alves scored with two seconds left for the three-point edge and OBU forced a turnover to end the game.
OBU got another big performance from its bench, which outscored the Cougar reserves 27-9. Rachel Heins led the Lady Bison with 16 points off the bench in just 19 minutes of action. Alves and Schwarz had 14 apiece.
Charliss Ridley led the Cougars with 24 points.
The OBU women, now 4-0 overall, will play two games at Siloam Springs, Ark., Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bison play College of the Ozarks at 6 p.m. Friday and University of the Ozarks at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Columbia College, 4-1, will play this weekend in Pittsburg State's classic.
