Bison Soccer Season Ends at Regional
November 12, 2004
Oklahoma Baptist University's first-ever soccer season ended in the Region VI Semifinals Friday with a 3-2 loss at the hands of Texas A&M International University.
The Bison had 10 shots on goal but Graham Lee collected eight saves, including an impressive stop of a penalty kick by Amaury Nunes in the second half.
The Dustdevils' Jose Macias broke up a scoreless tie in the 21st minute with an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead that would hold up through the remainder of the first half.
Jesus Sanchez put TAMIU ahead 2-0 with a penalty kick 89 seconds into the second half. Just over three minutes later, however, OBU was back in the game with an unassisted goal by Nunes to make it 2-1.
Fabio Pires was brought down from behind soon after that in the box during an OBU possession. Nunes took the penalty kick but Lee guessed correctly and dove low and to his right and knocked the attempt away.
OBU played short-handed for the last 25 minutes after a questionable red card on Adauto Oliveira.
The Bison fell behind 3-1 when Daniel Hermosillo scored unassisted with 14:34 left in the game.
OBU managed a goal with 1:16 left as Pires scored on a feed from Marcos Silva. The Bison had one last possession but could not score. OBU had seven second half shots on goal.
OBU, without a senior on the team, ended the season at 14-7.
