Bison Come Out Flat in 68-58 Loss
November 3, 2004
Oklahoma Baptist University's fifth-ranked Bison shot 29 percent from the field and lost a home opener for the first time since 1977 as LSU-Shreveport handed OBU a 68-58 setback.
OBU repeatedly went to a dry well beyond the three-point arch, attempting 30 three-pointers and missing 24. Aside from Justin Benson, the two-point shooting wasn't much better.
Benson knocked down 8-of-15 shots and hit all four of his free throws to finish with a team-high 20 points in his debut while the rest of the Bison shot a dismal 26 percent from inside the arch.
Leonard Mosley, slowed slightly by two surgically-repaired knees, came up with a dozen points and Robert Hart added 11 but missed 14 of 18 field foal attempts.
Andrew Bryant had 10 boards for the Bison who are 0-1 for the first time since 1983 when the Bison lost to Langston on the road to start the season.
Fredericko Payne scorched OBU for five three-pointers, including two that quelled OBU rallies, on his way to a 21-point effort.
OBU's poor shooting was evidenced by a night in which they pulled down 25 offensive rebounds and only recorded 13 second-chance points.
OBU will try to get back on track against Manhattan Christian College Saturday night at 8 p.m.
