Bison Drop Regular Season Finale to SNU
October 27, 2004
Oklahoma Baptist University's Bison soccer team dropped its regular season finale Thursday with a 2-0 loss to Southern Nazarene University at the Bison Soccer Complex.
The loss places the Bison at 2-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and in last place, which puts OBU on the road throughout the SAC Tournament, which begins Saturday. For OBU, it means a return trip to Siloam Springs, Ark., where they are fresh from a 3-1 loss at the hands of John Brown last Tuesday.
OBU never scored despite a pair of solid opportunities by Adauto Oliveira and Amaury Nunes. Goalkeeper David Eguren was equal to the task on both shots, the latter coming on a kick save that bounded off Eguren's foot, off the post and back into play.
Thomas Siranga scored both SNU goals. He caught OBU out of position for the first Crimson Storm goal in the 24th minute, guiding the ball in. Siranga's second goal was rifled in from the top of the box with 30:12 left in the game. Both goals were unassisted.
OBU, now 13-5, will try to halt its two-game skid with a win its first-ever postseason game on Saturday. The SAC postseason tournament, however, will be a tough road. John Brown is the second seed and if OBU pulls off the upset, they would travel to top-seed SNU in the semifinals.
OBU's women open the SAC playoffs Friday at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Both teams, in their first year, finished last in the SAC standings.
