Naylor received her bachelor's degree from Baylor in 1964, earning that university's Outstanding Premedical Student award that year. She received her M.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1968 and completed her residency in general surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. She graduated from Southwestern Seminary in 1974.
Vanderbilt presented her with the Weinstein Prize in Medicine in 1968 and Southwestern honored her with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1994. In 2003 she received the Christian Medical and Dental Association Missionary of the Year award.
The Herschel H. and Frances J. Hobbs Lectureship in Baptist Faith and Heritage is OBU's first endowed scholarship. Friends of the late Dr. Hobbs, who was pastor of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, and of the late Mrs. Hobbs, created the endowed fund in honor of the couple's years of outstanding Christian service.
The Hobbs Lectureship program sponsors an annual series of lectures on the OBU campus or other selected sites. The lectures deal with Baptist theology, Baptist history, studies of the Bible and other related themes.
