Concert of the Spirit Coming Oct. 5

Oklahoma Baptist University's Division of Music will present "Concert of the Spirit: A Service of Music and Reflection," featuring Thomas Bacon on horn, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Yarborough Auditorium.
Bacon will be assisted by Keith Whitmore on piano and the Central Oklahoma Horn Choir, directed by Kevin Pruiett. They will perform works by Beethoven, Paul Basler, Bernhard Krol, Wayne Scott, Michael Horvit, Jeffrey Agrell, Mark Schultz, Luigi Cherubini and Adam B. Levowitz.
Bacon has held principal positions with the Detroit Symphony, Berlin Radio Symphony and Houston Symphony. He is a member of Summit Brass, the St. Louis Brass Quintet, the Golden Horn, and Opus 90. He also tours as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist. Recent tours have taken him to Japan, Hong Kong, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Mexico and all across the United States.
He is a former faculty member of Rice University and Arizona State University and has taught master classes and hundreds of colleges and universities worldwide.
Whitmore joined the OBU faculty in 1991 and completed his DMA performance at the University of Oklahoma last summer. He is a published composer and teaches and is a frequent accompanist at OBU. He also is pianist at University Baptist Church.
The Central Oklahoma Horn Choir includes Michael Fox, Susan Gorton, Ryan Lowe, Martha McQuaid, Trey Medley, Chantelle Standefer, Emory Steiner and Micah Stewart.
Pruiett has been on the faculty of OBU since 2001 and directs the Bison Jazz Orchestra, teaches brass courses and maintains the recording facilities in Raley Chapel.
