Bison Soccer Breaks New Ground
September 27, 2004
When Oklahoma Baptist University opted to begin soccer, the school wanted a team that would eventually become a competitor.
"Eventually" has happened in the first year for the Bison. OBU moved up two spaces from last week and is now a Top 25 team. The Bison jumped from the first team out of the polls to No. 24 after a 2-0 week took them to 8-1 on the season.
"I think it's a great step forward for our program," said Bison coach Marcelo Galvao. "It's very nice to see your work and the players' work starting to be recognized. We're very excited about it."
OBU had 15 poll points last week and was granted 31 points this week by the 13 national raters.
The only loss this season came at the hands of Judson, which is now 10-0 and ranked seventh. OBU still has tough games ahead, including No. 8 Southern Nazarene and No. 17 John Brown.
The Bison will try to defend their new-found ranking Thursday at McPherson College (Kan.).
