May 13, 2004
Tony Ramos delivered a two-out single in the top of the 13th inning to drive in Kent Russell with the go-ahead run and Chad Rhoades made that slim lead stand up for a 5-4 OBU victory over Wayland Baptist in the NAIA Region VI baseball tournament Friday afternoon.
OBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the middle of the third, but Wayland knotted the score with single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Bison moved ahead 4-2 in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by Daniel Ellis, but Wayland answered with two in the bottom of the eighth.
Tabor Woolard gave up four run over eight innings, but relivers Jonathan Gray and Rhoades kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard with five shutout innings. Rhoades, a sophomore from Bowie, Texas, set down all 10 batters he faced in 3-1/3 innings. He improved to 7-3 on the season.
OBU will face top-seeded Oklahoma City University at noon Saturday. The Stars defeated Bacone Friday morning, 6-3. OBU and OCU are the only undefeated teams remaining in the double-elimination tournament at OCU's Sutton Complex.
