Variety of Talents Showcased in College Players Presents
November 11, 2003
Oklahoma Baptist University's College Players will provide an evening of theatrical entertainment, "College Players Presents," at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21-22 in the Sarkeys Black Box Theatre.
"It's probably the most unique entertainment opportunity OBU Theatre has to offer through the year," said Will Ledesma, a junior theatre major.
The primarily student-produced event includes acts that are submitted by the students and rehearsed on their own time. The students are directors, choreographers, writers and designers who have taken what they have learned and put it to work together in a show of their own.
"It's a great time for us to broaden our horizons," said senior theatre major Elizabeth Mitchell. "We're all excited and working hard. It's really going to be a great show."
College Players is an organization that supports the theatre department and consists of students interested in theatre, some of which are theatre majors.
"College Players is an exciting way for the students to showcase their talents in an individual way," said Dr. Joyce Aldridge, assistant professor of theatre.
Dances, scenes and monologues are on the schedule.
"Cell Block Tango," a dance choreographed by Elise Tavery, will feature Tavery, Mitchell, Andra Dunn, Christy Hall, Sonia Justl, Lee Matthews and Aaron Kelley. "Fallen," choreographed by Dunn, is a dance featuring Josh Cain, Mary Sanders and Stephanie Stewart. Dunn and Tiffanie Pearce choreographed the dance, "Strong Enough," which features Pearce.
Four scenes also will be performed. Josh Cain directs "The Shadow Box," featuring Brad Nickerson, Breeman Ainsworth and Jenna Blanscet. "Steele Magnolias" is directed by Shekinah Rogers and features Pearce, Rose Marie Packer, Dunn, Hall, Tavery and Beth Kinney.
Pearce directs Christy Hall's "A Memory Soon Forgetten," with Hall and Justl in the cast. Tavery directs "Proof," which is acted by Rogers and Mary Sanders.
The monologues are "The Story of Us" performed by Mitchell, "Powdered Doughnuts and Soggy Cereal" written and performed by Justl, and "Not Today," which was written and directed by Hall and performed by Rex Daugherty.
The Introduction to Theatre Class will also perform.
"The excitement of College Players Presents is that it is a chance for theatrical students to present a variety of talents that aren't normally showcased," said junior theatre major Latricia Reichman.
Admission is $3.
