OBU Event for Youth Groups Nov. 2
October 7, 2002
Continuing a four-year tradition, Oklahoma Baptist University will again host its annual Bison Youth Day, Nov. 2, for youth groups in Oklahoma and surrounding states to get a taste of the spiritual and social life at the university.
"We want students to see this as a place they can come and grow closer to God as well as have a good time," said senior Justin Dunn, student coordinator for the event.
Dunn along with Cindy Bartley, OBU assistant dean of admissions, plan on a special day for the students.
The day includes a welcome from OBU President Brister, a youth rally, guest speakers, a Bison basketball game and a Christian concert.
The rally will be an opportunity for students to worship together with the Chris Goff Band and to hear student testimonies from junior Owen Nease, from Marlow, and senior Becca Harris, from Aurora, Colo.
Students will attend the OBU Bison basketball game against Mid-America Bible College at 6 p.m., followed a concert featuring PFR in Raley Chapel. The concert is in conjunction with OBU's University Concert Series fall program.
PFR has returned to the Christian music scene after a four-year hiatus with the release of their new album, Disappear. Since their first release in 1992, the band has gained immense popularity, earning them a Grammy nomination and a Dove Award. When they retired in 1997, the group had sold more than 600,000 copies of their five records.
"Our hope is that students and leaders can come and have a good time four a cheap price and see college students making themselves available to them," Dunn said.
The cost is $15 per student, which includes a T-shirt, food and admission to the basketball game and concert. Reservations for church groups are due by Oct. 16.
