Campus Minister to Lead Chapel
October 3, 2002
Dale Griffin, Oklahoma Baptist University campus minister, will deliver the Oct. 9, chapel address during the 10 a.m. service in Potter Auditorium. The service will feature a student-led praise band as well as Griffin's message.
Griffin plans to speak to students concerning spiritual markers in their lives. Using II Kings 22 as his text, Griffin will discuss how to recognize signs of the activity of God in students' lives.
A 1984 OBU alum, Griffin has spent most of his life working with students. He served the Baptist Student Union at University of New Mexico from 1990-97 as their director. He then went on to serve as minister of worship from 1997-2002 at Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
From 1989-97, Griffin and his wife, Donna, served as worship leaders at student and mission conferences and revivals across the southwest. In addition, he hosted two radio programs, "Lyt Reminders" and "Think About It" from 1993-97 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Griffin's administrative post was formed following the resignation of Dr. Dick Rader as OBU's vice president for religious life. Rader, who had served in administrative and faculty roles at the University for 23 years resigned in May due to health reasons.
Griffin has a new vision for campus ministry at OBU to encompass all elements of the university.
In his role as campus minister, Griffin directs the university's religious activities, including coordination of OBU's weekly chapel services, Noonday Bible studies, Tuesday evening activities, and vespers. He also coordinates weekly discipleship and Bible study groups, works with Christian student organizations on campus, and directs Fall Challenge and Focus Week events. Griffin coordinates special religious life emphases, as well as ministry and mission programs for OBU students, faculty and staff.
Griffin serves as a member of OBU's executive cabinet, and supervises the work of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry director.
He received a bachelor's degree from OBU and a master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
