Community Orchestra Announces Auditions
August 13, 2002
Oklahoma Baptist University will audition new instrumentalists for the second season of the Shawnee Community Orchestra Monday, Aug. 26, from 7-9 p.m. in the university's Raley Chapel.
The auditions are open to instrumentalists ages 16 and older. Residents of communities spanning from eastern Oklahoma County to Henryetta are particularly encouraged to audition. Instrumentalists should prepare one piece for the audition.
The orchestra is funded in part by the Kirkpatrick Foundation, which provides a graduate student quartet that shares a joint residency at OBU and the University of Oklahoma. The Red River Quartet forms the core of the SCO strings section and performs on both campuses and in local public schools to raise interest in orchestral programs.
Members of the graduate student quartet include Ruth Klein, violin, George Figueroa, violin, Mike Whitson, viola and Sarah Kapps, cello. Dr. Jim Hansford, OBU director of bands, serves as SCO conductor.
Rehearsals are scheduled once a week during the academic year, on Mondays from 7-9:15 p.m. at OBU, beginning Sept. 9.
