Bobby Canty has been named dean of students at Oklahoma Baptist University, effective Monday, June 17.
Canty has served the University in a variety of capacities since being hired as director of athletics in 1984. He has worked as associate dean of students for two years. He also has held the position of director of student services.
A graduate of Florida State University, Canty received his master's degree in school administration from Mississippi State University. After teaching and coaching in his native Pascagoula, Miss., for six years, he became assistant principal at Pascagoula High School from 1974 to 1980. From 1980-84 he was principal of Shawnee Junior High.
"Bobby has served the university in a variety of roles over the years and brings unique skills and experience to this position," said OBU president Mark Brister.
Canty, who received the University's Meritorious Service Award in 2000, succeeds Todd Ream, who served as dean of students for two years.
