Local Students Can Apply for OBU’s Riddle Scholarship
March 18, 2002
Graduates of high schools and home schools in Pottawatomie, Lincoln, and Seminole Counties are encouraged to apply for Oklahoma Baptist University's Riddle Scholarship this spring.
The application deadline is April 1.
Created to aid students from Shawnee and surrounding communities, the Howard T. and Leoti W. Riddle Scholarship has been benefiting OBU for 30 years.
This year, 50 OBU students will be awarded almost $200,000. In the last 30 years, 2,937 scholarship awards have been made, totaling $2,056,914 in assistance.
The amount of the award for each student is based on financial need.
Applicants must be dependent students - unmarried and dependent upon parents for support. Applicants must also submit a letter of reference from a school or church official attesting to the character of the applicant along with a copy of his/her most recent academic transcript.
Incoming freshmen must have at least a 3.0 high school grade point average. Current OBU students or students transferring to OBU from another college must have at least a 2.5 college grade point average.
Students can reapply for the Riddle Scholarship each year.
In September, OBU celebrated the 30-year milestone with special recognition of the endowed scholarship program.
Started with a combined market value of approximately $650,000, the scholarship trusts now are valued at more than $6.2 million. Interest on the endowed funds is distributed for scholarship aid. The local ARVEST Bank manages the Riddle trust assets.
