Hymn Festival for Entire Community
March 1, 2002
Oklahoma Baptist University will host its second annual Hymn Festival on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Potter Auditorium of Raley Chapel.
The event will include performances by organist Dr. Ron Davis, OBU professor of music, the Bison Glee Club, the Bisonette Glee Club, and the Bison Brass Quintet. The groups will sing well-known and some new hymns and praise songs.
The Bison Glee Club is under the direction of Dr. John Simons, OBU associate professor of church music, and the Bisonettes are under the direction of Jack Pearson, associate professor of music. The quintet is under the direction of Kevin Pruiett, OBU assistant professor of music.
Norma Partridge, OBU associate professor of music, is the narrator for the event.
The festival originated as a celebration of OBU's new Reuter Organ Console that was installed last year after the renovation of Potter Auditorium. Davis, who created the event, said he hopes it will become a tradition.
The event is intended to have audience participation, with the choral groups supporting the congregational singing. Davis said he hopes the event will encourage a sense of corporate worship within the OBU and Shawnee communities.
The event is free and open to the public.
