“Keeping Faith” Is Theme For OBU Day 2002
February 8, 2002
Oklahoma Baptists will have the opportunity to celebrate their strong relationship with OBU during the annual OBU Day in the Churches events Feb. 17 and 24. The theme for the 2002 observance is "Keeping Faith." That statement is designed to convey the University's emphasis on providing strong academic instruction in a community that promotes a vibrant, growing faith in the lives of its students.
On Feb. 17, 2002, the OBU Day emphasis will be for the eastern region of the state. On Feb. 24, the emphasis will be for the western region and the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. However, churches with scheduling conflicts can use either day or choose alternate dates for their convenience.
OBU Day allows the University the chance to show appreciation to churches for their faithful support.
"OBU students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to go to churches across the state to express their thankfulness for the support of Oklahoma Baptists," said Dr. Dick Rader, OBU vice president for religious life. "OBU Day also gives church members a time to visit with current students and faculty, and gain a better understanding of what is happening on Bison Hill.
"We have found that the opportunity to share how our students are doing through OBU Day activities helps Oklahoma Baptists gain a greater awareness of the strengths of the University," he said. "We are thankful for the way God continues to bless OBU, and we don't want to take that for granted."
Students, faculty and staff are available to participate in worship services, youth meetings, or other church OBU Day activities. The representatives can share about OBU or Christian higher education in general. Bulletin inserts, an OBU "Quick Facts" brochure, and other materials are available for churches upon request. Speakers and materials can be requested through OBU's Religious Life Office at 405-878-2377, or by email to info@mail.okbu.edu.
A limited number of speakers and musicians are available, so churches are encouraged to schedule appearances early. Additional OBU Day information will be mailed to pastors and directors of missions in mid-November.
