January 11, 2002
Oklahoma Baptist University freshman Lacie Habekott will bear the ceremonial Olympic flame today in Oklahoma City.
Habekott, who has a prosthetic leg, will carry the Olympic torch along Lincoln Blvd. from 32nd St. to 34th St. at 3:10 p.m.
The native of Woodward, Okla., was nominated to carry the flame by a member of her hometown. She is a biology major at OBU.
The torch will arrive in Salt Lake City Feb. 8 to launch the start of the Winter Olympics.
The Daily Oklahoman reported that after the flame is lit in the Bricktown Event Center at 1 p.m., it will be carried west into downtown and then north to the Oklahoma City National Memorial. The torch will move north and east to the state Capitol, and from there, farther north to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, 1700 NE 63, where the torch will be carried on horseback.
From NE 63 and Interstate 44, it will return by motorcade to the train station.
