OBU Chapel Speakers Diverse in Ministry

Oklahoma Baptist University's spring chapel speaker lineup includes a variety of personalities in Christian vocations and ministries.
Jackie Allen, pastor of First Baptist Church in Miami, will be the featured speaker on Jan. 30. Allen is a 1987 graduate of OBU and has pastored four churches in Oklahoma.
Allen and his wife, Tonya, have three children.
Another Oklahoma pastor, Dr. Kevin Clarkson of First Baptist Church, Moore, will speak Feb. 27.
The Georgia Sea Island Singers featuring Frankie and Doug Quimby will offer a memorable musical tribute to the history of the southern barrier islands through African-American chants, shouts, and work and escape songs for the African-American Heritage chapel service, Feb. 6. They will offer a concert for the community Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in OBU's Raley Chapel.
Dr. Bill Gillham, co-founder of Lifetime Guarantee Ministries in Fort Worth, Texas, will be the Focus Week speaker Feb. 20 and 22. Gillham is a psychologist, speaker and author.
Psychologist Charlie Poor will lead the Marriage and Family Emphasis Week chapel service March 6. Poor founded one of the first church-based counseling ministries at First Baptist Church in Houston. He is a 1958 OBU graduate.
Dr. Carolyn Bishop, director of the Consortium for Global Education, will deliver the Hobbs Lecture, March 13. The Southern Baptist Convention's WMU executive director Wanda Lee will speak at the Women's Day chapel and luncheon, April 3.
OBU will host a Holy Week music service March 27 and Dr. Mack Roark, OBU Ruth Dickinson professor of Bible, will deliver the March 29 Good Friday address.
OBU also will continue several annual chapel services during the spring semester. Founders' Day, Feb. 13, will feature OBU President Dr. Mark Brister. The Student Government Association's Hyde Park Day, set aside to introduce candidates for SGA and class officer positions, will be April 17.
This year's student preacher service will feature OBU senior Scott Hendry, biblical languages major from Shawnee, April 24.
The Summer Service Corps Recognition service, orienting hundreds of students for summer ministries throughout the world, will be May 1. OBU's awards assembly May 8, will be the last chapel of the semester.
