The graduate student string quartet that forms the core of the Shawnee Community Orchestra strings section will be in concert this weekend and next at two universities they call home, Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Oklahoma.
The Red River Quartet will perform Friday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. at OU's Catlett Music Center choral room #128 and Monday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m. in OBU's Yarborough Auditorium. Their program includes Milhaud's Sonatine a Trois, Haydn's String Quartet Op. 20 #5 in F minor, and Dohnanyi's Seranade for Violin, Viola and Cello.
The Red River Quartet shares a joint residency at OBU and OU with funding by the Kirkpatrick Foundation.
The one-year grant provides the OBU and OU orchestras with an OU graduate student quartet that will form the core of the Shawnee Community Orchestra strings section. The quartet performs on both campuses and in local public schools to raise interest in orchestral programs.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information call OBU's College of Fine Arts at 405-878-2305.
