Oklahoma Baptist University will welcome internationally known harpist Greg Buchanan for the Oct. 17 chapel service.
Buchanan plays a variety of hymns, praise songs, gospel songs and original compositions on three harps, a Salzedo Art Deco Electronic Harp, a Celtic Harp and a Davidic Kinnor Harp.
He is the first harpist in the world to own and play the electronic grand harp, developed and hand-crafted by Lyon and Healy of Chicago, and serves as the international spokesman for the company.
Buchanan is a four-time nominee for the Gospel Music Association's instrumental album of the year and also was nominated for the group's Horizon Award. He also was awarded the recorded music packaging of the year honor.
He appears bi-annually in the International Jazz and Pop Harpfest and has performed at the Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards and Spectaculars, various Billy Graham crusades and on CBN's 700 Club.
Buchanan has several solo harp recordings, including "Peaceful Meditation," "The Journey," "Surrender," "Praise the Lord With the Harp," and "Noel: A Christmas Treasure." He also has appeared as a featured performer on more than five other albums.
Buchanan began playing the harp at age nine. He sees his talent as a ministry opportunity to share his personal journey of faith and deliverance from chemical and alcohol addictions.
He and his wife, Becky, have three children, Matthew, Erik and Bree.
