Dr. Nancy Cobb Lippens, Oklahoma Baptist University professor of music, recently received a cash award for excellence in music composition.
The ASCAPLU$ Standard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers is given to encourage writers of serious music to continue in their composition efforts.
ASCAP chose winners based on each writer's portfolio of original music and performances of those works dating from April 2000 to April 2001. Lippens' new compositions included "Laudate Dominum," written for the Sine Nomine Singers of Shawnee, and "Laudate Pueri," commissioned by the Tulsa Children's Choir.
She is a member of multiple organizations including the American Choral Directors Association and Mortarboard. She also was one of 42 readers for the Advanced Placement music theory examination this summer.
Lippens conducts the OBU's University Chorale and the Sine Nomine Singers.
She received a bachelor's of music degree from OBU, a master's of music degree from Michigan State University, and a doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
