College Fair Today, Tomorrow
September 24, 2001
September 24, 2001
The Shawnee Area-Wide College and Career Fair for all high school juniors and seniors will be Monday, Sept. 24, from 6-8 p.m., and Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., in Oklahoma Baptist University's Noble Complex.
Coordinator for the event, Deborah O'Gwynn, special events coordinator for OBU admissions, expects 90 colleges and universities and different branches of the military to attend. Representatives will offer students information concerning academics, financial aid, application processes, and housing options.
O'Gwynn said 32 area high schools have been invited and more than 1,000 students are expected to attend the fair. Shawnee High School students will attend the fair Monday evening and other area high schools will bring students Tuesday morning.
"This gives the students an opportunity to be exposed to what is available to them," O'Gywnn said.
The fair also provides a convenient location of contact for admissions representatives from the various universities.
"By having a fair for counselors to attend, it allows them to spend more time with the students and not so much time in their cars," O'Gywnn said. "Each counselor is also given a box with information from each attending college to take back and use at their school."
OBU sponsors the event, along with Arvest Bank, BancFirst, Bank of Oklahoma, Bank One, Local Oklahoma Bank, NHELP, Oklahoma Student Loan Authority, Shawnee News-Star, Stillwater National Bank and Trust Company and Tinker Federal Credit Union.
