Business Students Place at National Conference

Four Oklahoma Baptist University students took home first and second place finishes at the National Association of Information Technology Professionals conference in Chicago, Ill., in late March.

Senior Andrew Bishop, from Lakewood, Wash., and junior Louise Manning, from Denison, Texas, received first place in the JAVA competition. Seniors Greg Mackey, from Stroud, and Ken Hively from Gilbert, Ariz., took second place in the C++ competition.

"Each competitive event recognized a first, second and third place winner as well as three honorable mention recipients," said Dr. Cindy Hanchey, associate professor of computer science. "It is a very prestigious honor to place in this competition."

The students competed in timed, problem-solving competitions related to programming different computer languages. After the elapsed three-hour time period, they were judged for the correctness and style of their solution.

Also attending the conference were sophomores Bryan Blair, from Blue Springs, Mo., and Matthew Green, from Calvin; juniors Michael Hagedon, from Tucson, Ariz., and Philip Williams, from North Little Rock, Ark.; and seniors Ashley Miller, from Oklahoma City, Ryan Burk, from Bedford, Texas, Chad Evans from Midland, Texas. Faculty sponsors were Hanchey and Dale Hanchey, McCasland associate professor of computer science.
