Bison Glee Club’s “Sing Me To Heaven” Begins Tour

The Bison Glee Club will preview their upcoming international tour with a home concert Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Shawnee. The group leaves for a concert tour of Toronto, New York and Boston at the end of May.
Their spring concert, "Sing Me to Heaven," features music by choral masters Handel, Hassler, and Schubert and music by contemporary masters Dello Joio, Casals, Beibl, Gawthrop and Manuel. They also will present men's choir favorites Down in the Valley, Battle of Jericho, Dry Bones, Steal Away, and He's the One.
The Glee Club's quartet, Fallen Angels, will perform several Barbershop quartet selections.
Assisting the choir will be university organist Dr. Ron Davis, student pianist Stephen King, student conductor Aaron McDonald, and student violinist Toby Wan.
The 36-voice group was founded in 1938 by Warren M. Angell making it the oldest choral organization at OBU. Their current conductor, John E. Simons, also serves as OBU associate professor of music and coordinator of the church music department.
Their May tour will include performances in Germantown Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn., Immanuel Baptist Church in Nashville, Tenn., Hamilton Cathedral in Ontario, Canada, Grace Church in Long Island, N.Y., the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
The concert is free and open to the public.
