OBU Invites Variety of Speakers for Spring Chapel

Oklahoma Baptist University will host speakers from many different walks of life for Wednesday chapel services this spring.
All services will be at 10 a.m. in the university's Potter Auditorium.
Dr. Doug Watson, professor of English will perform as "Will Rogers" on Jan. 31. Watson is recognized around the state and country for his thought-provoking portrayal of Rogers, which he has performed at colleges and events.
Eric Costanzo, OBU senior from Bixby, will lead the student preacher service, Feb. 2. Costanzo was selected earlier this year to attend Dr. Billy Graham's Amsterdam 2000 conference.
Gwen Williams, founder of From the Heart Ministries, Inc., of the North American Mission Board, is the guest speaker for OBU's African-American Heritage service, Feb. 7. She is an author, motivational speaker, and folklorist, and has led worship for noted personalities including Beth Moore, Barbara Johnson and Anne Graham Lotz.
The Founders' Day chapel service, Feb. 14, will be led by OBU President, Dr. Mark Brister.
The Focus Week chapel services Feb. 21 and 23 will feature George Fischoff, Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar. Fischoff, a former concert pianist is a Julliard graduate and has written five on- and off-Broadway musicals.
Dr. Glenn Plum, pastor of First Baptist Church of Jenks, will lead the Feb. 28 service and Dr. Greg Hunt, pastor of First Baptist Church of Norman will speak at the chapel service on March 7.
The Hobbs Lecture on March 21 will be delivered by former OBU professor, Dr. Rick Byargeon, pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, La.
Dr. Les Parrott, professor of clinical psychology at Seattle Pacific University, and Dr. Leslie Parrott, marriage and family therapist at SPU, will present a chapel message on March 28. The Parrotts are co-directors of the Center for Relationship Development at Seattle Pacific University, a ground-breaking program dedicated to teaching the basics of good relationships through classroom education, seminars, research, and marriage mentoring.
The Parrotts have been featured on many national radio and television programs such as "Oprah," "NBC Nightly New with Tom Brokaw," "CBS This Morning," "The View," "Good Morning America Sunday," and CNN.
Women's Day will highlight the significance of women in ministry with a chapel message by Esther Burroughs, director of Treasures of the Heart Ministries, April 4.
Burroughs previously served as director of field staff in the Church Growth and Associational Evangelism Department of the Home Mission Board in Atlanta. She and her husband, Bob, director of church music for the Florida Baptist Convention, are 1959 OBU graduates.
Dr. Bobby Kelly, Rowena Strickland assistant professor of religion, will lead OBU's Holy Week service, April 11, and the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts will present the Good Friday service, April 13.
The Student Government Association will lead Hyde Park Day chapel service April 18, OBU's summer missions volunteers will be commissioned for service during the Summer Service Corp Recognition service, May 2, and student achievement will be recognized during the awards chapel May 9.
Chapel programs are open to the public.
